Congrats to Allie Jo on her taking 3rd place at the Empire Classic Hot Body Bikini Division held April 24th, 2010.
Having been involved in competitive athletics my entire life, beginning in kindergarten with 7 years of 4 hours gymnastic practices four to five days per week, I, Allie Jo Dreadfulwater, have had the opportunity to be surrounded by amazing health and fitness personnel for the majority of my entire adolescent and adult life thus far. Winning back-to-back 2A Idaho High School State Basketball Championships in 2004 & 2005 and completing two years of college basketball at Albertson College of Idaho in Caldwell, ID and Walla Walla Community College in Walla Walla, WA, I was able to learn the foundation of discipline that has allowed me to overcome two complete ACL knee reconstructions and continue to pursue my education in the process. In the Spring of 2007, right before my 2nd knee injury I had the opportunity to intern under Susie at In Sync Fitness while I was finishing up my Associate's Degree at WWCC. My passion for personal training had been peaking my interest for some time, but it was not until I met Susie and saw how creatively and successfully she ran her business and how much fun, but hard work the lifestyle she commits to it that my interest turned into the decision of making personal training and wellness coaching the number one candidate for my Bachelor's Degree and future career choice. In the Fall of 2007, after completing the rehab of my knee, I ended up moving to Lewiston, ID to finish my Bachelor's Degree in Kinesiology at Lewis-Clark State College. I became a manager for the men's basketball team for 2 years in order to stay around the sport of basketball, and even though things were going well with school and I continued to maintain good health with regular resistance training and cardiovascular activity, the passion I once had for exercise just did not seem quite the same. In January of 2010, as the men's basketball season was coming to an end I started thinking about different opportunities that would allow me to once again become involved in the competitive arena of sports. And that's when I gave Susie a call for help; one that she readily received and prescribed "medication" for: competing in my first NPC (National Physique Committee) physique/bikini competition! The last four months of my life, while training for the Empire Classic Physique Competition in Spokane, WA on April 24th, have been some of the most challenging four months of any training I have ever been apart of (approximately 15 year worth!). Being a die-hard gym rat my entire life, cycling through the different phases of weight lifting that Susie recommended came as a challenge, but a challenge that I had background to relate to and submit a base knowledge of understanding to. The nutrition principles, on the other hand, were a whole new ball game to say the least. Being an athlete, I have always thought that I have been somewhat conscious about choosing water over soda, fruits and veggies over potato chips, you know, the basic food pyramid principles that the normal human being should adhere to. But in the NPC world, normal nutrition simply will not cut it. Training for this competition taught me that nutrition is one of the most important, if not the most important (approximately 75-85%) of any training regimen. In a short 13 weeks of training with Susie I ended up losing 10 pounds, losing 11% overall body fat and decreasing my waistline 2 inches and my pant size 2 sizes!! Standing up on stage receiving the 3rd place trophy in the 5 foot 4 inch and under division at the Empire Classic was honestly one of the most rewarding things I have ever done in my life. Looking back on the entire process of 5 am cardio workouts, choking down pounds and pounds of tilapia, bags of Costco asparagus and green beans, and literally having no social life besides school for four straight months, I realize that for the first time in my life I was able to put every single ounce of energy into my goal that I was physically and mentally capable of. With the help of my training partner, Katie Druzianich, who was also training for the show and going through the same dieting struggles and successes that I was, and Susie, who was an absolute inspiration who was able to push us to that next level even though at times we had to question why were eating fish and green beans at 6 a.m. in the morning, I was able to overcome the mental barrier that had hindered my training for so long. Never once did Susie ever ask us to perform any exercise or diet that she would not, or has not gone through and completed herself to prepare for a competition. The respect that I gained from her leadership through this aspect is something that I will carry with me throughout my entire life and hopefully learn to instill in my own future clients. One of the most important things I learned from this entire experience is that every single person has different God given strengths that are able to be revealed with hard work and honest dedication. Appreciating our natural abilities and building on them will give us not only success for a competition, but success for a lifetime! Thank you Susie and In Sync Fitness for helping me accomplish my health and fitness goals!! Fall 2010 bikini show here we come!!
