Here are a few quick tips to get on the healthy eating track
1) Use spinach in salads instead of lettuce. Spinach is a nutritional superstar!
2) Buy pre cut fruits and veggies. I quit counting how many times people said "I don't have time to cut up all those fruits and veggies", NO MORE excuses
3) Use ramekins in place of bowls. They only hold 1/2 cup for serving frozen yogurt and other treats. Yep 1/2 cup IS A SERVING SIZE!
4) Eat fish twice a week. Fatty fish like salmon and trout is best.
5) Drink mostly calorie free liquids. Liquids do not register as food to the brain. "The average American gets 22% of their calories from liquids" YIKES!
6) Make your snack fruits and veggies. Try sliced veggies with one of my nut hummus recipes.
7) When out for dinner pack up half your meal to go. Before your food even arrives tell the server you want half "TO GO"
8) When dining out ask for double the veggie rather than potato, rice or pasta.
9) Stick to one "splurge" per day. You should NOT feel deprived on a "lifestyle" eating plan. Allow yourself the simple pleasures on an occassional basis rather than the binge purge of too strict eating plans
10) Make something new each week whether it's an entree, new vegetable, or breakfast option. Keep your food interesting and try new things. My lastest is "raw food". It's been a fun way to add some new exciting flavors to my palate.
